An overview of financial opportunities offered at the national and international level will be given during a dedicated session to financial instruments for innovation in aquaculture production.
SwitchMed‘s objective is to support and intensify the transition to sustainable consumption and production (SCP) practices, which contribute to promoting a circular economy in the region. Since 2014 SwitchMed has conducted inititatives in 8 countries of the Mediterranean basin, the program uses an integrated and comprehensive approach that targets and involves different actors, thus addressing the transition at different levels. By promoting business models that can reduce resource use and environmental footprint while stimulating existing economic activities, the SwitchMed program supports the long-term resilience and economic transformation of the region to meet economic, social and environmental issues related to climate change.
With the support of the Directorate General for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (DG MARE) of the European Commission, the integration of the blue economy component within SwitchMed aims to contribute to the preservation of marine and coastal ecosystems in the southern Mediterranean – while promoting an economy that is more resilient, competitive and able to meet the challenges of sustainable development in the sectors of the fishery and aquaculture sectors of the Mediterranean.
